Charles W. Riecke
Charles W. Riecke, 80, of Medford, Ore., passed away August 11, 2012. He was born February 15, 1932, in Des Moines, N.M., to Carl and Ellen Jo Riecke. Charlie proudly served in the United States Navy with the Seabees in South Africa from 1951 to 1955. He was a very patriotic man and believed in and loved his country.
Charlie was a resident of Medford since receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy. He was a firefighter and engineer for the Medford Fire Department for 25 years. He also worked for Sam Jennings garage for many years and also did general carpentry work. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and being outdoors. Charlie and Patty were childhood friends and sweethearts, having grown up together near Des Moines, N.M. After high school, Charlie joined the Navy and Patty moved to Farmington, N.M., where they each continued on with their lives.
They were reunited in 1976, married, and together have lived in Medford since that time. Patty was the big love of Charlie's life and he was hers. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Carl Jo. He is survived by his wife, Patty; son, Charles Riecke (Linda); daughters, Rhonda (Gary) Nagel, Jeanne Schmitt, Patricia (Charlie) Evans, and Jan (Kevin) Peel; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Jerry (Marla) Riecke and John (Kathy) Riecke.
Services will be held Friday, August 17, 2012, 11:00 a.m., at the Eagle Point National Cemetery with Paul Hagedorn officiating. The family would like to thank everyone who helped Charlie and Patty during his lengthy illness.
