Emma 'Louise' Burton

Louise Burton passed away August 23, 2012, at Rogue Valley Medical Center of heart failure. She was born in Tuscaloosa, Ala., November 23, 1933, to parents Norman S. and Fanny May Thames. The family moved to Medford, Ore., in mid-1937, and she lived there her whole life. She attended Lone Pine School and Medford Senior High.

Louise didn't finish school because she married the love of her life, Robert "Bobby" Burton, November 24, 1951, the day after her 18th birthday, and she was content to spend her life being a stay-at-home mother and wife, caring for her children, home, beautiful flowers, and gardens. There was one exception; she packed pears each fall for 26 seasons for Modoc Orchards. Louise was the type of person who never met a stranger, and a stranger was a friend who she hadn't met. Everyone who met her adored her.

In retirement, Louise spent her time taking care of her husband, Bobby; her little poodle, Bubbles; and loving her family. She loved going in their travel trailer to lakes, ocean beaches, and Reno and Tahoe, Nev. She also enjoyed bingo at the Eagles Lodge on Monday night, and going with Bobby wherever he was playing music. In 50 years, she didn't miss a gig more than a dozen times; she was the faithful groupie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bud Thames; her son, Dale Lee Burton; and her best buddies, aunts Alice Buckmaster and Gladys Earl. She is survived by her husband, Bobby; son, Norman Burton, of Folsom, Calif.; daughter, Pamela Owen, of Medford, Ore.; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Chuck Harkins, of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 30, 2012, 2:00 p.m., at Eagle Point National Cemetery, and a gathering will be held following the service at 780 Herman Avenue, Medford.
