Ruth Naomi Becker Kirk

Ruth Naomi Becker Kirk entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, May 20, 2014. Ruth was born April 22, 1923 in Lancaster, Pa. to Mamie and Roy Becker who were of Mennonite heritage. She had six siblings. She married the love of her life, Richard C. Kirk, June 18, 1942. They celebrated 62 years of marriage just prior to Richard's passing in July of 2004. Ruth was a resident at the Rogue Valley Manor in Medford, Ore. for 22 years, where she was lovingly cared for by staff in the last years of her life.

Ruth was a wonderfully supportive ministry partner to her husband in each of their five Baptist pastorates (East Long Meadow, Mass., Sparta, Mich., Wheaton, Ill., Salem and Medford, Ore.), in which she used her gifts of administration, hospitality, friendship, and music. They were both deeply loved by the many hundreds of people who were touched by their godly lives and dedicated service. Most recently Ruth was a member of First Baptist Church, Medford, Ore. where she took leadership in their missions program until she was in her eighties.

Ruth's life was marked by her love and devotion to her Lord Jesus Christ. She studied the Scriptures diligently and prayed faithfully throughout her life. Her family is grateful for this legacy of a godly life and are comforted to know that she is now at peace in her heavenly home. Ruth celebrated her final April birthday, Mother's Day, and her home going with her daughters by her side.

Ruth was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Memories the family especially treasure include: bountiful Pennsylvania Dutch meals highlighted by her luscious fruit pies; quilts and afghans lovingly created for each of her children and grandchildren; freezers and shelves brimming with the fruit of her labors (all from husband Richard's gardens); a ready sense of humor and sweet smile; and years of personal letters with specially selected readings tucked in.

Ruth is survived by four daughters, Sharon (Roger) Perkins of Holland, Mich., Linda Kirk of New York City, Darlene (Walter) Hansen of Chicago, Ill., and Brenda Almarode of Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren, Nathaniel Hansen, Jonathan Hansen, Linnea Haddock, Eric Moss, Stephen Moss, and Lindsey Almarode; and nine great-grandsons, Nico, Benji, and Oliver Hansen, Lucas Hansen, Xander, Soren, and Bowen Haddock, William Moss and Everett Moss. She is also survived by siblings, Jane Mickey, Donald Becker, and Jerry Becker.

A memorial service for Ruth Kirk will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Medford, Ore. A time of sharing, remembrances, fellowship, and food with family and friends will follow the service in the Fireside Room. An additional memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Rogue Valley Manor Sunrise Room. Memorial gifts may be given to the Medford First Baptist Church Missions Program. Family contact: Sharon Perkins, 2185 Eagle Blvd., Holland, MI 49424.
