Olene Vencill passed peacefully to be with the Lord April 28, 2014. She was 90. Olene was born in Durant, Okla. December 30, 1923. Her family moved West to escape the devestation of the Dust Bowl and Olene graduated from Lakeview High School in 1942. She married Bob Vencill February 9, 1943.
Olene assisted Bob in fulfilling hias educational and career goals following WWII and was a homemaker. After Olene and Bob's children had families of their own, Bob and Olene explored much of the Southwest United States by air, Bob the pilot and Olene the navigator. Oleve ralized her dream of opening the "Dream Shop", a women's clothing store in Victorville, Calif.
In retirement Olene and Bob returned to their beloved and adopted home state of Oregon. Oregon was where they met, married, and enjoyed their early years of hiking and campin in the mountains, walking the beaches, and boating the rivers.
Olene was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters, and Bob, her husband of 70 years. She is survived by her son, Lee Vencill; daughter, Rita Spangler; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Rexford, Sue Havniear; brother-in-law, Jim Vencill; and many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and dear friends who all love her and miss her dearly. She was a special mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, and ray of sunshine to everyone.
Olene's final wish was to be at home with her Lord and with her sweetheart, Bob, "Forever and Ever." May she rest in peace.
Olene Vencill's service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Stephens Family Chapel, 1629 Williams Highway, Grants Pass, OR 97527.
