Bobby Keith Spoonts
Bobby passed away June 20, 20014 at home with four generation of his family by his side. He was born June 2, 1936 in Hobbs, N.M. to Virgil and Eula Spoonts. Bobby grew up in Texas oil fields, graduated from Loveland High School and attended the University of Texas to study petroleum engineering (and to play poker).
Next to his family, his greatest love was drag racing. He owend and drove his 1966 Chevrolet "Two Tons of Fun" John Force was his hero.
Bobby was especially proud of his Cherokee heritage. He went to Heaven wrapped in a Native American quilt made by his oldest daughter, Sudy, with an eagle feather in his hand and his NHRA membership card. Bobby was employed by Harry and David for 32 years. He was Marlene travelled all over the United States purchasing fruit and over seeing gift packing, quality control, and computer shipping systems. HE had great friends everywhere he went.
Bobby was infamous for his sense of humor and gentle teasing, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Bobby is survived by Marlene German Spoonts, his wife of 57 years; his children, Sudy Storm (Will), Gary Spoonts (Karen) and Laurie Combs (Gary); grandchildren, Michelle Pies (rick), Sherry Egli (Greg), Tara Laughlin (Derrick), Amber Johnson (Loren), Bill Staples (Jami), Travis Staples (Becky), and Ray Storm; plus 14 great-grandchildren. He also leaves his beloved sister, Judy Bates ; and nephew, Tony Bates of Texas.
