Joe Raymond Burchfiel

Joe Burchfiel passed away in his home, Friday morning, August 22, 2014.
Joe was born August 4, 1936 in Bristow, Okla. to John Raymond and Retha Redwing Burchfiel. His family moved from Oklahoma to San Jose, Calif. in 1952. Joe attended San Jose State University where he played football and wrestled. He joined the Army in 1956 and served two years in Korea. Joe began a 31 year law enforcement career as a police officer in Sunnyvale, Calif. He retired in 1993 as a Lieutenant with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office in Medford, Ore.
Joe married Joyce Ann Hughes in 1958. In February of 2014, they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.
Joe was many things to many people; a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was an incredible and loyal friend to many.
He was an avid sports fan. He loved to watch, play, and coach. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, and spending his winters in Arizona with Joyce and friends. Above all, Joe loved spending time his friends and family.
Joe Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, John and Retha; and sister, Frances. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Ann Burchfiel; sister, Dottie Marie Ellingson (David); sons, Jerry (Susan), Larry (Debbie), and Greg; grandchildren Joel (Kristin), Gabe (Amanda), Jordan (Kayla), Lauren, John, Joe, and Jesse; great-grandchildren, Addison, Ben, Zander, Gavin, and Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Joe will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 28, 2014 at First Church of the Nazarene, 1974 E. McAndrews Rd., Medford, Ore. Pastor Kevin Gowland will officiate.
