Melvin Lynn Morgan, 84, of Phoenix, Ore., passed away Dec. 25, 2014. He was born June 9, 1930 in Independence, Polk County, Ore. to Jesse Riley Morgan and Mildred Rose (Laird) Morgan.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bonnie (Peters) Morgan, Phoenix, Ore.; daughters, Debra Morgan Pardee, Issaquah, Wash. and Susan Morgan Farber (Herb), Central Point, Ore.; son, Wayne Morgan (Janet), Phoenix, Ore.; sisters, Celene Jandreau, Santa Cruz, Calif., Mary Lou Vignola, Eugene, Ore.; brothers, James Laird Morgan, Florence, Ore. and Michael Morgan, Ashland, Ore.; grandchildren, Aaron Pardee, Benjamin Pardee, and Andrew Farber; and five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Alyssa, Leah, Alexis, and Emrie.
Melvin lived in Ashland, Ore. and the Southern Oregon Coast region nearly his entire life. Graduating from Ashland High School in 1949, he worked more than four decades as a carpenter and construction site supervisor for local commercial construction companies. He retired in 1991 giving him time to enjoy the loves of his life, camping in his Lodgepod, crabbing and fishing the Oregon Coast, and when his health allowed Sagewalking the 12 Mile Table in Eastern Oregon. When not enjoying the Oregon wilderness he could be found working in his home wood shop designing and inventing his many unique products. Melvin was quite proud of all the buildings he helped construct and while traveling through Southern Oregon, he would point out the many landmark projects he worked on, recalling the unique features of each.
He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for 60 years and also a Veteran of the Oregon National Guard.
A private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, his family requests contributions in his name to the Ashland High School Booster Club's Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 121, Ashland, Oregon 97520 or the Alzheimers Association-Oregon 1650 Northwest Naito Parkway, Suite 190, Portland, OR 97209
