James 'Elwood' Dye

James Elwood Dye, 84, of North Bend, Ore. entered his heavenly home on the evening of Thursday, March 19, 2015. He was born April 2, 1930 in Medford, Oregon.

Elwood graduated from Bonanza High School in 1948. He farmed with his family before serving in the Army during the Korean War at Ft. Worden, Wash. as a marine engineman. After discharge, he then attended OTI in diesel mechanics, farmed with his family and finally settled in Coquille at the Georgia-Pacific Mill in 1954. On June 26, 1955 he married Velda Leota Rodgers of Bonanza and they began attending Coquille Church of the Nazarene. His priority became God first above all else. After 16 years with GP, he then hired on with (ODOT) in North Bend, retiring as a Maintenance Man III in 1993. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, reminiscing of his escapades as a young man and working days, and fellowship with his church family. All who knew him enjoyed his inspirational sense of humor and his quiet strength!

Elwood is survived by his wife of 22 years, Velda Dye Kessler; children, Cheryl (Jon) Shellenberger of Wellington, Kan., Lonnie Dye of North Bend, and Kim (David) Allen of Medford; brothers, Warren (Kay) Dye and Blayne Dye, both of Central Point, Ore. and Neil (Brandi) Dye of Prospect, Ore.; grandchildren, James (Brynn) Shellenberger of Johnson, Kan., Joni (Chandler) Goscha of Bartlesville, Okla., Joy (Brett) Turowski, of Bartlesville, April Dye (Matt Bell) of Portland, Ore., James Jay Dye of Oroville, Calif., Kristin (Joel) Burchfiel of Medford, Shauna (Nathan) Johnson of Kent, Wash., seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, James Elwood Dye, Jr. of Coquille, Ore.; parents, James William Dye and Alma Irene (Conner) Dye of Central Point; brother, Ronald Wayne Dye of Bonanza; sister, Leah Irene Custer, of Central Point.

A public visitation will be held Thursday, March 26th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Conger-Morris Funeral Home, 800 S. Front Street in Central Point. An interment service will be held at Eagle Point National Cemetery Friday, March 27th at 9:00 a.m. A memorial service will follow on Saturday, March 28 at Bay Area Church of the Nazarene at 1:00 p.m., 1850 Clark Street in North Bend.
