Esther Pauline Snook Simmons Heilbronner
November 21, 1933 - August 13, 2015
Esther, 81, passed away August 13, 2015 in Springfield, Ore. She was born in Prospect, Ore. to Paul and Fannie Snook. She lived all of her life in Oregon.
Esther taught elementary school for 34 years in Stayton, Sublimity, and Medford. She had a passion for talented and gifted kids, as well as kids with disabilities. She was a member of Stayton United Methodist Church for 56 years and more recently the First United Methodist Church in Eugene. She taught Sunday school for many years. Esther was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star - Victoria Chapter #76, Turner and Order of the Amaranth - Cherry Court in Salem and Douglas Court in Roseburg and Habitat for Humanity. She was a past recipient of Woman of the Year in Stayton/Sublimity and Oregon Elementary Science Teacher of the Year.
Esther enjoyed reading, gardening, writing poetry, playing Scrabble and pinochle, and being outdoors, camping and backpacking.
She married Bert Simmons in 1953 and had four children: Mary Simmons of Bothell, Wash., Sandy Jones of Portland, Ore., Steve Simmons of Salem, Ore., and John Simmons of Granby, Colo. Esther married John Heilbronner on July 3, 1977 at Suttle Lake.
Esther is survived by her husband, John, of Springfield; and children Katherine Wilson of Leaburg, Fred Heilbronner of Eugene, Cinthia Erickson of Springfield, and John C. Heilbronner of Coburg. She is also survived by her brother, Gene Snook of Central Point; sister, Patricia Parent of Central Point, 14 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Stanley Snook.

A Celebration of Life service for Esther will be Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Stayton United Methodist Church.
