James Alvin Lowman

James Alvin Lowman, 91, passed away September 13, 2015 in Medford, Ore.  Jim, son of Alvie and Elsa Lowman, was born in Sebastopol, Calif. He grew up in San Francisco, graduating from Mission High School in 1942.

From an early age, his first love was baseball, pitching for various bush league teams and Mission High. He was signed under contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1942.

During World War II, he joined the United States Merchant Marines, graduating from Kings Point Academy in New York. He served on both Liberty and Victory Ships in the Asia-Pacific region. After the war, he returned to the west coast, where he continued to play semi-pro baseball in the Western International League.

Jim resigned from the United States Naval Reserves in 1961. He worked in the lumber industry for 55 years as a lumber wholesaler, retiring at the age of 80. He is survived by his sister, son, daughter, and step-son.

Cremation with inurnment to follow at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
