Roy A. Reed

Roy A. Reed passed on from this world Wednesday, October 28, 2015. He was born in Medford, Ore. July 20, 1923 to Harry and Mollie Reed. Much of his youth was spent living with his family at the Klamath Agency where he was free to roam the butte and lakeside, honing his hunting and fishing skills. Roy served in the US Navy during World War II, as Torpedoman’s Mate 2c (T), on the USS Hawkbill (SS-366).

When he returned to Medford at the close of WWII he met Ina Hughes. It was ‘love at first sight’ and they were married March 30, 1946. Roy and Ina had three children, Dannie, Debbie, and David. They resided in Central Point, Medford, and rural Phoenix before retiring in Klamath County. Roy was an Optician and worked at Solar Labs, Brower & Reed Optical, Bausch & Lomb, and Anderson Optical. He loved outdoor activities, hunting, hiking, camping, motorcycle riding and racing, wood cutting, and fishing.

Roy and Ina were married for over 67 years, loved being outdoors together, traveling and viewing the wildlife in remote parts of Oregon. They shared a lifelong interest in Oregon’s history, archaeology, and indigenous people.

Roy will be missed by his sister, Mary (Earl) Savage; children, Debbie Dill and David (Linda) Reed; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his precious wife, Ina; brother, Clarence Reed; and son, Dannie Reed.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 5, 2015 in the Eagle Point National Cemetery Chapel. A Celebration of Life gathering will immediately follow at the Ashpole Building in Eagle Point, Oregon.
