Mary K. Ryder
Mary K. Ryder, 92, passed away peacefully November 11, 2015. She was born June 5, 1923 in Syracuse, New York, to Max C. Knappenberger and Irene Wurzberger.
Mary graduated from the School of Journalism at Syracuse University, where she was an active member of Alpha Phi and Theta Sigma Phi.
On December 7, 1946 in Syracuse she married Stephen W. Ryder, a journalism school classmate. In 1949 they welcomed a daughter, Lynne Ryder.
In 1973 Stephen accepted the position of publisher for the Mail Tribune, which brought the Ryder family to Medford, Ore.
Mary's interests and activities included countless hours of volunteerism with various groups around Medford, including her dedication to the Medford chapter of P.E.O. She was a passionate wordsmith, completing crosswords daily, and regularly defeating her family at Scrabble. She was a devoted wife, mother, and especially grandmother.
Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Lynne Ryder Moke, in 2001 and her beloved husband, Stephen W. Ryder, in 2006.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Amanda Lynne Akers, her grandson-in-law, Daniel Akers of Springfield, and her son-in-law, Richard F. Moke of Bend.
