Richard Dean Kane
Richard (Dick) Kane passed away November 19, 2015 in Medford, Ore. Dick was born December 1, 1928 in Burlington, Wash. to Robert Dean Kane and Glendora Grace Brunemer Kane; a brother, Donald Lee Kane, was born in 1930.
Dick attended Phoenix High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952, forming lifelong friendships with several of those with whom he served.
In 1950, Dick married Wanda Louise Norton and together they had three children: Cathy, Mark and Brian. In 1969, Dick married Doris Dean Kier Neil, adding her two daughters, Carol and Roberta, to the family. This blended family enjoyed many summer picnics and holidays together; his family and their well-being were very important to Dick.
Dick worked at Timber Products and was a loyal member of the International Woodworkers of America. He served as shop steward, business agent, and president of the Local 3-6 in Medford; Dick retired as organizer in 1990.
Dick was a loved and respected husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to spending time with his family, Dick was an avid reader and book collector who also enjoyed music, old movies, and a good meal.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Doris; his children Cathy Kane Prichard (Jim), Mark Kane (Lourdes), Brian Kane (Teri), Carol Hood (Lyle) and Roberta Bustamante (Terry); nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and a nephew.
A memorial service and interment at the Eagle Point National Cemetery will be held in 2016. Memorial contributions may be made to the Phoenix Historical Society or a favorite charity.
