Ernest Lee Brewer

September 7, 1931 - December 2, 2015

Ernest L. Brewer, 84, an exceptional man of faith and integrity, passed away December 2, 2015. He was born in Clinton, Okla., and raised on a farm in Mirtle Creek, Ore. by his mother, Bessie, and stepfather, Tony Doll. Ernest worked at the local grocery store and then proudly joined the United States Navy at the age of 17.

He enjoyed touring the world and working his way up to First Class Gunnersmate on the USS 724 Laffey. While on leave, he met the love of his life, Betty Ann Brewer, the child of Dora Alice Comer and Stewart Franklyn McDorman of Norfolk, Va. Ernest and Betty married November 28, 1952. Upon completion of his Navy term, they relocated to California where he became a young apprentice of the plumbing trade, and celebrated the birth his sons, Donald Ray Brewer, born October 23, 1953, and Phillip Lee Brewer, born June 5, 1957.

Ernest and Betty then moved to Santa Cruz, Calif. and celebrated the marriages of Melody Joy Balliet to Don Brewer and Janie Lynn Cronk to Phil Brewer. Shortly thereafter, they celebrated the arrival of their grandchildren, Brittnie Nicole Brewer, born April, 25, 1979 to Phillip Brewer, Sean Isaac Brewer born August 4, 1981, and     Krystal Michelle Brewer born January 11, 1985.

It was later that they came to be loved beyond words by two great-grandchildren, Levi Asher Lyons born on August 13, 1999, and Samantha Michelle Schaller born October 6, 2005.

Ernest retired early as foreman of his crew in the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 393 in San Jose, Calif. and relocated to Medford, Ore. at the end of 1991. He toured much of the world again, with his wife of 63 years, and dedicated much time and devotion to the Christian church and missionary work both abroad and within his community.  He breathed his last breath in Central Point, Ore. at 5:20 p.m., December 2, 2015.

His dedication to his family, strong leadership, compassion and willingness to help those in need will be missed by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance, but especially by his loving family.

A  memorial service and interment will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday,  January 8, 2016 at the Eagle Point National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made directly to his widow at the service, or through the family.
