Anna Ellen Knapp

November 1, 1923 - December 10, 2015

Anna Ellen Knapp passed away at the age of 92, December 10, 2015 in Medford, Ore. She was born to Edwin Wall and Clara Grace Davis, the fourth of eight children in Wapinitia, Ore. She was known to all as “Ellen”.

In 1928 the family moved from Bend to Eagle Point, walking behind their wagon full of possessions, and herding their livestock. Ellen started school in Eagle Point that year. A few years later, the family settled in the Sterling Creek area of the Applegate, where she finished her schooling.

Ellen married James V. Knapp in Jacksonville, Ore. on July 31, 1941. He preceded her in death in November of 2008 after 67 years of marriage.

Ellen worked in the fruit packing houses around the valley. In 1955, she started work at Harry & David’s "Bear Creek" facility, where she stayed until retirement in 1988. Ellen was a supervisor in the packing house and taught in their training program. Many of her students would refer to her as “Grandma”.

James and Ellen spent their retirement summers in Brookings, Ore. at their vacation home where family and friends would join them. Ellen attended the yearly gathering at Buncom Day, where childhood friends and neighbors would gather to reminisce about the “good old days.” She was a member of the Buncom Historical Society.

Ellen is survived by her daughters, Linda Daniels of Yuma, Ariz. and Donna Wickham of Lebanon, Ore.; her grandchildren, Joy Kistner (Jim), Mark Bailey (Kathy), and Susan Thomas; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Lionel (Tom) Wall of Medford, Ore.; and her sister, Evelyn Krake of Langlois, Ore. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; and five siblings, Hank Wall, Earl Wall, Eleanor Watkins, Elsie Jean Turnbough, and Donna Huston.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, December 28, 2015 at Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd, Medford. A gathering of friends and family will immediately follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 772 Black Oak Drive, Medford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the charity of one’s choice. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Signature Hospice for their loving care of Ellen.
