Pearl Cedar Platko
Pearl Platko passed away November 20, 2015 at her home in Medford, surrounded by her family. She was born July 1, 1929 in Portage, Penn.
In 1949, Pearl moved to Ashland, Ore. to marry Joseph J. Platko. Together they raised four children. Pearl was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church and was very active in building the church community, organizing bazaars and rummage sales, teaching catechism classes, and was a member of the Altar Society. She was always one to help others and volunteered her time and efforts all her life, most recently at the Theresa McCormick Assistance Center.
Pearl and Joe enjoyed many years of dredging for gold on the Applegate River with their children. Once they were grown, she began working at Southern Oregon College (now known as Southern Oregon University) as a production supervisor in the cafeteria. She retired in 1987 after working there for 15 years.
Pearl is survived by her children, Andrea Platko Avery, Victoria Platko Johnson, Joseph (Tony) Platko (Debbi), and Valerie Platko Ruth (Louis); her grandchildren, Amanda Mortensen, Rachel Platko Graham (Erik), Joseph Platko, Paige Platko, and Ashley Ruth; her great-grandchildren, Brenna and Gwenyth Mortensen, and Dayton Maertz. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Platko July 26, 2012.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland Asante Hospice, as they took wonderful care of both Pearl and Joe, in their last days.
