John 'Keith' Bakshas
Keith Bakshas passed away peacefully January 23, 2016 in Medford, Ore. He was born March 24, 1944 in Billings, Mont. to John and Ellen Bakshas. He was a long-time resident of Central Point. Keith had suffered poor health for the last several years and welcomed the relief.
When he was quite young, Keith’s family moved to Grants Pass, Ore. His family owned and ran several businesses including a motel, and a natural gas company.
Keith's passion as a young man was music, and that passion continued throughout his life. After graduating high school he attended Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Ore. There, he ultimately earned a master’s degree in music. He was also a ‘founding father’ for the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
During his time at college he met and married his first wife, Cheryl Oden. Together, they had Keith’s only child, Brian Bakshas, when Keith was just 22 years old. Keith never stopped playing music, but he was also involved in multiple business ventures during his life, including owning a music store. He eventually retired in 2000.
He was also passionate about his son, Brian and his daughter-in-law, June. Brian has served in the United States Air Force for almost 25 years, and is currently a Lieutenant Colonel. During this time Keith made a point of calling them weekly, and closely followed Brian's career from the start. Until his heath started to fail, he visited his son and daughter-in-law at every new assignment, including overseas locations.
Keith is survived by his son, Brian Keith Bakshas. He was preceded in death by his father, John Bakshas; his mother, Ellen Bakshas; and his brother, Kenneth Bakshas.
No services are planned at this time. His son and daughter-in-law are respecting his wishes to hold a private ceremony, and spread his ashes in a scenic spot that Keith loved.
