James David MacKenzie Sr.

James David MacKenzie Sr., 76, passed away January 28, 2016 at Avamere-Three Fountains in Medford, Ore. He was born August 25, 1939 in Stoneham, Mass. to Harold and Florence MacKenzie.

Following graduation from high school, James entered the United States Navy and served from 1957 to 1961. During his naval service, he married Carole I. MacKenzie January 21, 1960 in Waukegan, Ill.  He then spent 2 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

James worked for the National Weather Service (NOAA Research Fleet) as an electronics technician. During that time he continued his education at college and enjoyed a long and prosperous career. In 1982, James and his family made their home in Medford. He enjoyed ham radio, fishing, hunting, metal detecting and was a member of the 49'er Club.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Carole; his sons, David MacKenzie and James MacKenzie Jr.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sue MacKenzie and his son, Pete MacKenzie.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 1, 2016 at the Conger Morris Central Point Chapel in Central Point. A graveside service will follow with a military honor guard at the Jacksonville Cemetery. Chaplain Paul Hagindor will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Conger-Morris, 541-664-3361.
