Charles 'Steve' Stephen Schnell
Steve Schnell passed away March 2, 2016. He was born July 11, 1947 in Los Angeles, Calif.
Steve and Laura met in March of their junior year at St. Paul High School in Santa Fe Springs, Calif. They met at a party where they danced together, fell in love, and that love never changed, a light that never dimmed.
Laura and Steve would pay general admission at Disneyland, dancing all night there, because they loved dancing together and never wanted to dance ‘solo,'either in life or on the dance floor.
They married February 4, 1967 in La Mirada, Calif. Shortly afterward, Steve enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam. Once his tour of duty was fulfilled, he returned to welcome his five-month-old baby girl, Leah. The following year, he welcomed his son, Jim.
Throughout Steve’s life, he had many talents, including playing guitar and piano by ear, and he performed weekend gigs with his singing partner at country clubs, taverns, and private parties, playing folk music, early rock-n-roll, and using both 6-and 12-stringed guitars.
Steve and his family enjoyed many years of outdoor fun. Camping, snow skiing, water skiing, rock climbing, mountain climbing, go-kart racing, fishing, and boat camping with his family were his all-time, favorite activities. Steve and Laura enjoyed traveling and had adventures to Maui twice, cruised the inland passage of Alaska, and last January, went on a 7-day cruise to the Caribbean.
In his retirement years, Steve enjoyed boating and fishing, and spent many hours on the lake. He would camp out on the water, sometimes joined by his precious wife, Laura, especially with the recent purchase of his dream boat.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Laura ; his daughter, Leah; his son, Jim; his grandsons, Steven and Derek; his granddaughter, Leah; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service, with military honor guard will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 11, 2016 at Eagle Point National Cemetery, Eagle Point, Ore. A reception will follow at the family home.
