John Shirdie Turner

May 29, 1948 - May 3, 2016

Born in Americus, Ga., John S. Turner passed away and entered into the warm, loving arms of the Lord with stoic courage, quiet dignity, and no bother to anyone save for the final days of loving care by his wife of 40 years, Susan Turner of Sams Valley, Ore.

A man of few words, John chose action as his language. Always useful, resourceful, and giving of himself, sometimes even beyond his physical means, John provided far more to those he loved and cared for than he was willing to receive. One scarcely had to ask, and John was there to deliver firewood, offer his carpentry skills, or put himself to use in any way needed. John's quiet steadfast faith revealed itself in his daily life.

John's years in Oregon were his happiest. Hunting, working his gold claims, target shooting, or simply tinkering around his property brought him great joy. John cared for his animals with compassion, and his love for his German Shorthaired Pointers, and the many years of companionship they shared, ran far deeper than words can convey.

A proud Vietnam veteran, loving brother, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and American hero, John will be missed far more than he could have imagined; he who asked for so little, and yet gave so freely of what he had to offer.

John's family would like to express their gratitude to the Asante Hospice staff for their compassionate care.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 9, 2016 at Eagle Point National Cemetery, Eagle Point, Ore.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Asante Hospice, c/o Foundation, 2600 Siskiyou Blvd. #100, Medford, Ore. 97504.
