James Richard Lee 'Rick' Remley
Rick Remley, 68, quietly passed away the morning of April 27, 2016 at his home in Ashland, Ore., surrounded by family and friends. Rick was born May 21, 1947, just after World War II to James Ellsworth and Ida Cornelia Remley in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he lived until he was six years old.
The family then moved to a small farm in nearby Goshen, Ohio, where he enjoyed an idyllic childhood until he was 10. The family soon relocated to Los Angeles, Calif. in search of work. His father died a few months later when Rick was 11 years old. He watched over his mother and sisters until he was drafted at 19. In 1967, Rick bravely served our country in Vietnam and after returning home he soon married. He and his wife, Linda had their only child, a son, Jim. Four years later Rick, his wife, and young son moved to Oregon.
Rick was a lifelong student; he worked and went to college, and on his path to enlightenment, Rick’s study and practice of Buddhism was at the center of his life, which he quietly taught by example. Rick was always there with wisdom, humor, kindness, love, and a helping hand to family and friends. His kindness and generosity of spirit will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
Rick is survived by his son, Jim Remley; grandsons, Michael, aged 19 and Matthew, aged 11; and his sisters, Emily Boris and Scotty Remley.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Christ Unity Church of Medford, 540 N. Holly St., Medford, Ore. 97501.
