Mary June Hedgpeth
"...For tyranny and greed there is left no room
When the poor and common have the chance
To live and love and laugh and dance..." (June Hedgpeth)
My amazingly loving mother, Mary June “June Bug” Hedgpeth passed away peacefully at home, May 13, 2016. She was surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones during her last days. She was born in Cherokee Okla. 95 years ago to Oran and Dora Harris.
June and Dee Hedgpeth married in Newton, Kans. January 18, 1939. She worked as a hairdresser after high school and later sold Avon for many years; riding to make her deliveries on a three wheeled bicycle. She never drove a car. They eventually settled in Palm Springs, Calif. to be close to their children; their son, Don and his wife, Millie Hedgpeth and their daughter, Connie and her husband, Art Woolston. During this time, Don passed away, leaving Millie a widow. When Connie also became a widow, she and Connie lived together. When Connie became terminally ill, they moved to Medford Ore. to be close to her daughter, Karen and son-in-law, Ed and her children and great-grandchildren. We are so grateful to have been with our Mom in her last years.
She loved God first and foremost but also enjoyed her crossword puzzles and games. She loved poetry and gardening but above all, her time with family and friends. She was a member of Medford First Christian Church and enjoyed the Red Hat Chalice Chicks, her Bible study group. She never knew a stranger and to know her was to love her! Her beautiful smile would light up a room and she always said, “God bless!” to everyone when she said farewell. Her beautiful and loving spirit was an inspiration to all of us! She will be terribly missed but fond memories will be cherished always.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Farris (Edward); three grandchildren, Sheri Morris (Brad), Todd Farris (Hannah), Steve O’Connor (Cheri); five great-grandchildren, Zan, David, Justin, Maddie, and Caitlin; and many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Medford First Christian Church, 1900 Crater Lake Ave. Medford, Ore.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Medford First Cchristian Church or the charity of your choice.
