Beatrice 'Bea' June (Bureau) Bentson
Bea Bentson passed away peacefully May 28, 2016, at Providence Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Bea was born August 6,1924 in Hugo, Ore. to Ernest and Josephine Olson Decker. She attended school in Hugo and graduated in 1942, in the last class of Hugo High School before it closed. She and her brother, Douglas, were raised on their grandparents ranch in the Hugo area.After graduation, she attended and graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Eugene, Ore. In 1947 she married Philip Bureau in Grants Pass, Ore. That marriage produced three children; son, Michael and daughters, Patricia and Paula. Being a registered nurse, Bea worked at Josephine General and Providence hospitals. She worked for several doctors in private practice and also many years at the Medford Clinic. She retired from full-time nursing in 1978, after working for Dr. Richard Schwahn, in private practice in Medford,Ore.After the death of Phil in 1959, she married Gordon Bentson in 1969 and relocated to Medford from the Grants Pass area. Bea and Gordon loved traveling, including numerous trips to Arizona, Mexico, and all over the western United States during their RV-ing days. Bea was a 65 year member of Beta Sigma Phi, she also belonged to the Oregon Nurses Association, Medford Elks RV Group, and was President of the Lincoln PTA while her children were in elementary school. She also, attended every sporting activity and recital that she possibly could. Bea enjoyed family functions more than anything. Her hobbies included sewing, canning, gardening, reading, watching the Trail Blazers, Forty Niners, and Ducks on T.V., amateur wine making under her own label of "Witches Brew," and a late-coming hobby of adult coloring.Bea is survived by her son, Michael Bureau (Shirley); daughter, Patricia Bureau Alvarez (Dan); step-daughter, Pat Mathews (David); grandchildren, Amy Mainord, Christi Lorenzini, Timothy Alvarez, James Alvarez, Steve Bureau Glider, and Robb Glider; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; step-brother, Rudy Santich (Merilyn); niece, Donna Shumaker; and cousin, Ron Peterson. Bea was preceded in death by husband, Gordon Bentson; husband, Philip Bureau; her parents; step-dad James Santich; brother, Douglas; daughter, Paula Bureau-Glider; special aunt, Erma West; daughter-in-law, Carla Bureau; and mother-in-law Helen Bureau.Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday June 11, 2016. A recitation of the Rosary will commence at 9:00 a.m. followed by a viewing from 9:15 to 10:00 a.m., at Perl Funeral Home 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford, Ore., followed by a reception. Burial will be at a later date at Eagle Point National Cemetery.The family would like to thank Fountain Plaza for their care and dedication to Bea.
