Janelle E. Franklin

Janelle E. Franklin, 66, of Central Point, Ore. passed quietly in her sleep the afternoon of June 18, 2016 with her husband of 47 years at her side after a short and brave battle with cancer.Janelle was born November 26, 1949 in Portland, Ore., the daughter of Malcolm and Coral Owens. She attended James Madison High School, and stayed active in the Portland Chapter of Jobs Daughters, serving as a Bethel Officer and member of the court. She would go on to graduate high school in 1967.In July of 1969, she married the love of her life, Jimmy Don Franklin in a storybook-style chapel wedding. Together, they would go on to raise three sons and one daughter, spending much of her time exploring the great state of Oregon, living and working in Astoria, Hood River, Troutdale, Tillamook and even Helena, Montana and Terrell, Texas. After beginning her administrative career with Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Oregon, she would find her passion working with state mental health agencies in Texas, before moving her skills and experiences back to her homestate, working with county mental health offices and courthouses in Multnomah, Tillamook, and Jackson counties. She retired in 2014.Survivors include her husband, Jim Franklin of Central Point; her adult children, Diana Franklin USN Ret. and fiancée Michelle King of Fernley, Nev., Bryan and Koni Franklin of Medford, Jason and Catherine Franklin of Medford, Chris Franklin of Central Point; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters; and several “honorary Franklins,” including Emily Barber of Medford, Oregon. Janelle was preceded in death by her parents, Malcolm in 1990 and Coral in 2013.A private memorial and celebration of her life was held for close family with thanks to Perl Funeral Home of Medford. The Franklin family is especially grateful for the condolences, support, and prayers. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Janelle E. Franklin may be made to Asante Hospice.
