Charles William Culy
Charles Culy, 83, passed away July 6, 2016. he was born in Jacksonville Ore. at his aunt's house. He was the eldest of three children born to Louis and Rosalie Culy.
The family lived on Charles's grandfather's ranch at the end of Kinney Creek on the upper Applegate river. There was no bridge across the river so they forded the river on horses. Without electricity, they used carbide for light. Charles attended the Beaver Creek School through third grade by crossing the swinging bridge near the school. His family later moved to Central Point and Jacksonville.
In 1947, Charles joined the Oregon Army National Guard. In 1949, he joined the United States Navy where he served as Seaman First Class from 1949 to 1953. He was deployed to Korea three times on the aircraft carrier Princeton stationed out of Hawaii.
After the Korean War, Charles began a 40-year career in logging.
Charles is survived by his three children and one step-daughter, Linda. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Lucille and Mary Lou and by his longtime companion of 40 years, Mildred Deen.
A memorial service will be held for Charles at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Ruch Community Bible Church. Pastor Ron McKay will officiate.
