Dorothy Arvilla Goddard

Dorothy Arvilla Goddard, went home to be with the Lord August 1, 2016 in Medford, Ore. She was born March 3, 1923 in Brush, Colo. to Malcolm and Arvilla Suttle.
At an Abbott and Costello movie in August of 1945, she met Fay Goddard, a member of the United States Army who was home on leave. After knowing each other for a week, Fay was returning to his duty station at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii when the war in the Pacific was ended. He arrived back home September 13, and on September 14, 1945 they drove to Goodland, Kansas and got married. In 1946 Fay and Dorothy moved to Medford, Ore. so he could work picking pears for Harry and David. Fay was made a foreman and worked for Harry and David until his retirement in 1979. Through the years Dorothy worked for Harry and David, Woolworths, and Dairy Queen.
Dorothy accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior after a visit by a lady from the Welcome Wagon. She and her family attended First Baptist Church of Medford for many years, but in recent years Dorothy was a faithful member of Harvest Baptist Temple in Medford.
She is survived by her sister, Helen, age 99; her daughter, Virginia Casad of Medford, Ore.; her son, Jerry, of Lancaster, Calif.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; seven brothers and sisters; and her son, Dean.
A private family graveside service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Harvest Baptist Temple the same day. In lieu of flowers, Dorothy's family is requesting a donation to the Camp Fund at Harvest Baptist Temple, 2001 South Columbus Ave., Medford, Ore. 97501. Arrangements are in the care of Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland, Ore.
