Wanda Nina (Elder) Griffith

July 7, 1930 - September 8, 2016

Wanda went home to be with our Lord early Thursday morning. She was born to Ida (Vinyard) and Jesse Elder in Williams, Ore.

Wanda was a descendant of the Gibson pioneer family who settled in the Williams Valley. In her earlier years, she worked for the telephone company in Medford. In 1950 she married Henry Ralph and shortly after moved to Southern California where they had two sons, Wayne and Lowell. After later separating, Wanda moved back to the Rogue Valley. In 1959 she married Billy Griffith, having two more sons, Bill and Dave. Wanda and Billy owned and operated their small sawmill together in Sams Valley for many years.

Wanda loved her family and friends and was passionate about taking care of them through barbecues, dinners, and other social gatherings. She enjoyed the outdoors and taking care of her home, yard, and garden along with fall activities such as processing the wild game her family brought in, and canning. Wanda taught her family at an early age not to be bored - life is too short. She never let any grass grow under her feet. One of her many projects included making the green and white address signs, many of which can still be seen throughout the valley. She never considered taking care of her family to be work. Wanda was loved by her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Wanda is survived by her sister, Melba Waters; four sons; and numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Norma Moreland; brother, Sonny Elder; and her granddaughter, Heather Ralph.

A memorial service officiated by Pastor Scott Purrier will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Butte Creek Bible Church in Eagle Point. Family and friends will enjoy a potluck while sharing pictures and stories of Wanda's life following the service. Wanda will be laid to rest in the Antioch Cemetery with her husband Billy.
