Albert Beckwith 'Beck' Sanborn

Albert Beckwith "Beck" Sanborn, 66, of Medford, Ore. passed away from cancer October 26, 2016. Beck was born May 26, 1950 to Gay and Albert Sanborn in Altadena, Calif.
He attended Pasadena High School, graduating in 1968. Beck also graduated from University of California, San Diego (B.A., 1972), University of Texas (M.P.H., 1973), and Lewis and Clark College (J.D., 1977). Beck practiced law in Oregon, Indiana, and Texas, specializing in healthcare law.
Beck was a member of the Oregon State Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, and the Texas State Bar Association. He was also an attorney/counselor of the Supreme Court of the United States. In Portland, Ore. he practiced law, specializing in business, quality improvement and risk management. He was General Counsel for Legacy Health System (Metropolitan Hospitals, Inc.) before moving to Indiana and then to Texas, where he represented numerous health systems (Holy Cross Health System, Harris Methodist Health System, and St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital.)
While in Indiana, Beck was an adjunct professor at the University of Notre Dame, teaching courses in healthcare law. In Texas, Beck was Director of the state’s Health Information Counseling and Assistance Program and Managing Attorney of the Texas Health Law Project.
In retirement, Beck was an avid volunteer and acted as a legal counselor and advocate for the elderly. He was a board member for the HASL Center for Independent Living, and the Disabilities Service Advisory Council. He was formerly the Treasurer of the Eagle Point Senior Center board. Beck was also instrumental in founding the Eagle Point Food Project, and was a driver for the local Food and Friends program.
Beck is survived by his “better half” and life partner, Valerie Taylor-Crow; his two sons, Jake (Albert Whittemore) Sanborn of Portland, Ore. and Sam (Samuel Corgiat) Sanborn of Anchorage, Alaska; and his sister, Nancy Sanborn Saunders (George), of Eagle, Colo.
A celebration of life will be held in 2017, date to be determined.
