Ralph Weldon Roberts
December 3, 1941 - October 29, 2016
Ralph Weldon Roberts passed onto his next adventure October 29, 2016. He was currently residing in Bixby, Okla. He was born December 3, 1941 in Medford, Ore. to Frank L. Roberts Sr. and Mildred J. McQuigg.
He had a military father and Ralph's travels began around age 10. He graduated from high school in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Within a few months he returned via ship to the States to report to U.S. Air Force basic training. Twenty years later he retired from the service as Master Sergeant. He thrived in the Air Force and to his last day was proud to have served.
Ralph had millions of miles of travel with the largest percentage in the air. In 1972 he completed 1,000 hours of flight time in the Lockheed C-130 Hercules and qualified for membership in the C-130 Hercules Thousand-Hour Club. Ralph had an array of awards in the Air Force, among them the Air Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters for Meritorious Achievements.
He did not like to sit still long and thrived on learning new things. After he retired he held several different jobs. The job he held longest was as a chef after attending Culinary School at Rogue River College in Oregon.
Ralph took college courses while in the Air Force and continued to do so after retiring and received his Associate degree.
Ralph was a loner but he loved to be with his family and a few assorted friends, on his own terms. He was loved and we will miss him dearly.
Ralph had only been in Oklahoma for 14 months after being "nagged" by his sister to follow her there after her recent move, so she could keep an watchful eye on him.
Survivors include a daughter, the light of his life, Tracy Swanson (Mike) and three grandchildren, Ashton, Micheala, and Caleb all of Glenmora, Louisiana.; one sister, Jacquelyn McJunkin (Jack) and their children Nikki Foster (Robert), Kay McJunkin, and Jack McJunkin Jr. (Selina) all of Oklahoma., Kelly Malcom (David) of Washington and Stephen Noort of Idaho, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank; mother, Mildred; and brother, Frank Jr.
Arrangements were under the direction of Bixby Funeral Service. Burial will be held at a later date at a VA Cemetery in either Louisiana or Oklahoma.
