David Oran Babbit
David Oran Babbitt, 76, passed away October 28, 2016. He was the only child of Marion Oran Buehler and Margaret Barbara Brackin. His parents divorced when David was young. When he was eight years old his mother married Irving Dix Babbitt. They lived in Torrance, Calif.
David graduated from North Torrance High School and El Camino Community College, both in the Torrance area. In 1964 he married the love of his life, Linda Jane Hurley. They lived in Gardena, where their first daughter was born and then in Huntington Beach where their second daughter was born. He graduated from California State University at Long Beach with a bachelor of science in business administration. He worked his entire career with the telephone company, first with Pacific Bell and then with AT&T.
David retired at the age of 49. After Linda retired they moved to Ashland, Ore. where they found a group of wonderful friends. He was a lifelong avid deep sea fisherman and loved going on long-range trips on the Red Rooster II, out of San Diego, Calif. He also played senior softball for several years after retiring.
David is survived by his loving wife, Linda; daughters, Michelle Marie Babbitt and Kathryn Louise Wallace; his loved son-in-law, Aaron K. Wallace; and his cherished grandsons, David and Owen.
A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, or to the charity of your choice.
