James 'Jim' Ky Goodboe
June 25, 1944 - November 21, 2016
Jim Goodboe passed away Monday, November 21, 2016 in Medford, Ore. He was born June 25, 1944 in Roseau County, Minn. to Boyd and Mahala Goodboe. After graduating from Roseau High School in 1962 he enlisted in the United States Navy. While enlisted, he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal and Navy Achievement Medal. Jim had served his country for nearly 23 years when he retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer.
After retirement Jim moved to Trail, Ore. where he was owner and operator of Misty Mountain Farms. Jim raised hogs, sheep, and goats and was active in Southern Oregon Pork Producers Assoc. and served as president for two years. After his love for farming dissipated, Jim became the Vice-President of Operations for Rogue Recreation. He held this position for 20 years until he was finally ready to enjoy his retirement.
During his retirement years Jim was an active member of the Jackson County Fire District 4 Support Group. Jim served as first chair on the board for the past two years helping raise money for much-needed equipment for the fire district. Jim was also an advocate against the Pacific Connector pipeline which was to carry natural gas from the western Rockies across southwest Oregon to a new export terminal in Coos Bay, Ore.
Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty; brothers, Dick Goodboe of Prospect, Ore. and George Goodboe of Stanford, Fla.; sisters, Donna Minarik of Valier, Mont. and Marie Burgland of Warroad, Minn.; son, Ed Goodboe of Rogue River, Ore.; two grandsons; and a granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his son, James Goodboe II and his brother, Larry Christenson.
