Robert 'Uncle Bob' Franklin Rawstern
September 27, 1937 - December 26, 2016
Robert was born September 27, 1937 to Bernard and Susan Rawstern in Mellette, South Dakota. After relocating her young family of four children to the Rogue Valley after the untimely death of Robert’s birth father in 1942, Susan married Thomas Ambrose in 1946. As a loving stepfather, Thomas raised Robert as his own.
Robert attended and graduated from Medford Senior High School in 1956 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force from which he received an Honorable Discharge as an Airman First Class in 1961.
Robert retired as a truck driver for Hilton Fuel in Central Point.
One of the kindest and gentlest souls to walk this earth, Robert is survived by his three siblings, Bernard (Judi) Rawstern, Ellen Augard, and Joan (O.D.) Milburn. While Robert never married, he is also survived by seven loving nieces and nephews; seven loving great-nieces and nephews; and one loving great-great-nephew ... it is because of this that Robert was referred to by most as simply “Uncle Bob.” He will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Franklin Rawstern; his mother, Susan Ellen Gilman Ambrose; and his stepfather, Thomas Ambrose.
The family would like to give special thanks to Providence Hospice and most especially to the loving care provided by Lilian Sheppard and her staff at Sheppard Foster Care Home of Central Point.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Conger Morris Central Point Chapel, with a short graveside service at Hillcrest Memorial Park to follow.
