Helen Jane Slack
September 7, 1924 – May 26, 2017
Helen Jane was born in Hood River, Oregon to Charles and Lillian Fuhrman. She passed on into her Savior’s loving arms at her home, with her family surrounding her.
She moved with her family to Ashland, Ore. in 1953 to be closer to her parents. They attended the Christian Church of Ashland, where she married W. Karl Slack in 1959. She became the church treasurer and remained a member until her death. Helen worked for many years as an office nurse; she retired from the Jackson County Public Health Service in 1987. Outside of church, work, and family, Helen was an active member of the Ashland Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. In 2009, she moved with her husband from Ashland to Pioneer Village in Jacksonville.
Helen is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Karl; and her children and their spouses, Kandy (nee Korthase) and Steve Lockard, Craig and Karen Korthase, and Mara (nee Slack) and Robert Brodeur. She is the beloved grandmother of five grand children and of thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Peter Fuhrman; her first husband, Fred Korthase; and her stepson, Lynn Ray Slack.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Christian Church of Ashland, 318 B. St.
