Irene Marcisz, 93, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017 surrounded by her children at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. She was born March 10, 1924 in Nokomis, Illinois to George and Anna Gabor.
Irene graduated from Nokomis Township High School in 1942. During her senior year she worked in the school office. Since Irene had such beautiful handwriting, the principal asked her to sign his name on the diplomas for her graduation class. After graduation, Irene left the family farm and moved to Chicago to work. She worked at the Merchandise Mart, putting War Bonds on microfilm. There, Irene met Ted Marcisz. They were married October 12, 1946. Irene and Ted moved to Medford, Oregon in 1948 where they raised their family. Irene enjoyed many years of camping, hunting, fishing, sewing, and gardening. Irene and Ted were married for 64 years.
Irene is survived by her four children, Holy Names Sister Janet Marcisz of Eugene, Dan (Jeannie) Marcisz, Sue (Larry) Darland, and Beth (Dan) Ratty, all of Medford; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted; brothers, George, John, Nick, and Demitri; and sisters, Mary, Anna, Julia, and Margaret.
Irene will be laid to rest at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Mass of New Life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2017 at Suncrest Retreat Center in Talent, Ore.
