Phillip Jordan Nye

November 22, 1931 - May 2, 2017

Phillip Jordan Nye, 85, passed away peacefully May 2, 2017, at Northridge Center in Medford, Oregon. Phillip was born November 22, 1931 to Stephen G. Nye and Evelyn Dew Nye in Medford, Ore.

Phillip was born with special skills and had the ability from early on to memorize maps and train and bus schedules. He could tell you what the bus or train number was, dates of arrival, and departure from most major American cities. He had an interest in current affairs and would read the Medford Mail Tribune and San Francisco Chronicle daily, often writing letters to the editor on things of his interest. Phillip also enjoyed putting together puzzles and would frequent Goodwill and yard sales looking for new puzzles.

Phillip was a "regular" at the Southern Oregon Jazz festivals each year and loved both classical and traditional jazz music. He touched many of the residents and staff at Northridge with his constant classical music from his old table radio.

Phillip moved to Medford from Portland in 2007 where his cousin and guardian, Tom Dew and his primary caregiver, Lavette Smith took care of him. For the past 14 months he resided at the Northridge Center assisted living facility in Medford where he received excellent care in his last days, and was a favorite of his caregivers and many of the residents there.

Phillip was a long-time member of Saint Mark's Episcopal Church in Medford.

Phillip was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen A. Nye; father, Stephen G. Nye; and mother, Evelyn Dew Nye. He is survived by two nieces and a nephew on the East Coast, and several cousins on the West Coast.

The family would like to thank Lavette Smith for the loving care she gave Phillip for the past 10 years. Phillip grew very close to Lavette and his life was much better thanks to her loving care. We would also like to thank Reverend Tom Sramek, the Rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Medford, for his comfort to Phillip during the last days of his life.

A short graveside service will be held at Siskiyou Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017.
