Betty Louise (Connell) Wight

Betty Louise (Connell) Wight, 84, passed away May 15, 2017 in Ashland, Oregon. Betty was born November 19, 1932 in Medford to Harry and Gladys Connell.

Betty was the eldest of three children. She attended both Jackson Grade School, and Howard Grade School. Betty graduated from Medford High School. Betty then went on to graduate from Southern Oregon College in Ashland earning a teaching degree. She first taught school at Howard Elementary and then taught for a time in Prineville, Ore.

On October 15, 1955 Betty married Sharon Wight in her grandmother, Anna Chastain's home, which was located between Beatty and Maple Streets on Central Avenue in Medford. She loved her grandmother and her grandmother’s home. It was a large three-story home with the interior finished entirely in myrtle wood. This was the beginning of her lifelong love for myrtle wood. In later years, Betty would drive past the location with her grandchildren and point out to them the place where she was married. Betty worked for many years and eventually retired from Bear Creek     Corporation. Most important to her, though, was serving her God, Jehovah. She symbolized her dedication to him in 1963 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Though reserved, she would in her own way try to share with others the things she was always learning.

Survivors include her daughter, Laurie Jeandin of Phoenix, Oregon and her son, Dale Wight of Joseph, Oregon; along with three grand-children, Austin Jeandin, Alexander Wight, and Alicia Wight.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sharon Wight and her sisters, Joanne Sherman and Mary Adams; and parents, Harry and Gladys Connell.
