Ileane Frances Davis
November 17, 1931 - April 25, 2017
Ileane Frances Davis, 85, passed away April 25, 2017 at her home in Medford, Oregon. She was born Ileane Frances Brownlee, November 17, 1931 in Central Point, Ore. to Van Elton and Elsie Brownlee. She and her sister, Donna, were raised on a ranch located in Little Applegate, Ore.
She attended school in the one-room Little Applegate schoolhouse until it was time for her to attend high school, at which time she chose to attend Ashland High School. After graduation in 1951, she moved to Roseburg, Ore., and worked at the local hospital as a nursing assistant until she was called home to help care for family.
She worked in the Anderson Butte Lookout in the summer of 1953 and the Mt. Isabella Lookout during the summer of 1954. She loved working in the lookouts, enjoying the outdoors and the beauty of Southern Oregon.
Ileane married Douglas Davis April 15, 1955 in Medford, Ore. She and Doug were married for 53 years until his passing in 2008. Together they raised their three children, Warren Scott Davis, Sandra Lorreen Davis, and Kathryn Grace Davis (Stewart). Early in their marriage they lived in several small towns in Northern California, and eventually found their way back home to Medford, where they lived until their passing.
Ileane had many hobbies and passions that enabled her to help others. She was a wonderful seamstress, making much of the clothing for herself and her children. She also enjoyed gardening. No matter where she lived, there was always a place for a garden; these gardens fed her family as well as many other families.
While her children were growing, she spent many hours volunteering as the Den Mother for Cub Scouts, then helping endlessly with the Boy Scout Club for the Oak Grove area. In addition, for many years she was the advisor for the Campfire Girls club, and then the Omicron Theta Rho girls club, and gave freely of her time for her love of children.
She was a devoted member of Jacksonville Ruth Rebekah Lodge #4 for nearly 70 years and a member of the Jacksonville Odd Fellow Lodge #10 for 16 years, serving the community in many ways; countless hours were spent cleaning the IOOF section of the Jacksonville Cemetery. She and Doug were also members of the Jackson County Horse Club, spending many weekends working to improve trails, riding horses, and enjoying club camping trips.
She volunteered for many groups around the valley for years, however, she found her calling when she volunteered for what was then, Loaves and Fishes and is now, Food and Friends. She became the site manager for the Jacksonville Food and Friends, and finally retired 16 years later at the young age of 81. She truly cared for the clients of Food and Friends and made many new friends with the very special volunteers at the site.
She is survived by her three children listed above, and six grandchildren, Kayla Stewart, Kellie Stewart, Morgan Stewart, Mitchell Davis, Alaina Davis, and Ashlee Branham. She is also survived by her lifelong friends, Rita Golden Brown and Illa Lebrun Willmore.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, July 28, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Jacksonville IOOF Hall located at 175 S. Oregon Street, Jacksonville, Ore.
