Mel was born to Delbert and Estelle Wingler on Monday, October 26, 1931 in Decatur, Illinois. He graduated from Decatur High School and continued on to receive his associates degree in Southern California.
Mel was married April 17, 1970 to his wife of 47 years, Margie Wingler (Barger).
Mel was a patriot through and through, participating in the Korean War as a member of the crew of the USS Sutherland, US Navy Destroyer, ‘a tin can sailor.’
Mel worked as a service manager, part of a management team tasked with reviving failing GM dealerships in Oregon and California. Later in retirement he operated a small business providing haying services and raised several head of Black Angus cattle.
Mel was a life-long member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, riding Harleys with his buddies, and restoring vehicles such as a 1939 La Salle (among several others).
