William Hargus Colley
February 7, 1929 - June 3, 2017
William Hargus Colley, 88, passed away June 3, 2017, at his home in McKinleyville, California with his family at his side.
Bill was born February 7, 1929 in Lynchburg, Virginia to John Hargus Colley and Mary Lou (Wimmer) Colley.
Bill spent three years in the Marine Corps and was a cryptographer during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Marine Corp he attended Southern Oregon College where he obtained a bachelor degree in education. Bill taught in Medford, Oregon for several years before moving his family to Orange, California.
While teaching at Serrano Elementary School he obtained his master degree and later became a principal at Serrano, Linda Vista,. and Crescent Elementary Schools. Bill retired from Orange Unified School District in 1989 and moved with his wife Billie to McKinleyville, Calif.
Bill enjoyed gardening, daily crossword puzzles and the company of his dogs, but his true passion was golf. He was at the golf course almost every day, was an excellent instructor and donated his time to the local junior golf program.
Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Billie Mae (Mann) Colley; his four children, Alicia Passarelli, Judi Newby, Ken Colley, and Donna Eben; his nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Bill will be held at a future date.
