James Peter Giorvas

Jim passed away peacefully at home. He was born in Santa Maria, California, and moved to San Francisco as a child.

He served as a paratrooper during World War II. From 1944-1946, he was a catcher for the Dodgers baseball team. In 1952 he married Loretta "June" Thompson. They were married 65 wonderful years and had four children, Jackie Ray Allen, Judy Marie Smith, James William Giorvas, and Joann Loretta Foerster. He retired as lieutenant of San Francisco Fire Department after 26 years of service. He went on to be a fire science instructor at College of the Siskiyous. He coached Little League and American Legion baseball. He obtained a real estate license. He was a lifetime N.R.A. member, a member of the Lions Club, and a member of the Elks Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, and he loved to read.

Our loyal, selfless, and kind husband, father, grandfather of 11, and great-grandfather of 12 will be greatly missed. Nine of his sons and grandsons carry the name James.

The help from hospice and our caregivers is deeply appreciated.

A private family gathering to celebrate his life will be held following his interment at Eagle Point National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Signature Hospice, 835 S. Front St., Central Point, OR.
