Douglas Edwin Vail

May 20, 1952 - September 30, 2017

Douglas Edwin Vail, 65, of Central Point is now present with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Doug was born May 20, 1952 to Walter Vail and Shirley Barlow in Pasadena, California.

Doug graduated from Crater High School in 1970 holding multiple records as a runner in track and field. He went on to attend Southern Oregon University. Throughout his life, he enjoyed the outdoors with family and friends including fishing, hunting, mountain hiking, camping, and skiing. He was married at the First Baptist Church, Medford, to Cheryl in 1980. He and Cheryl began a loving family with three blessed sons. He lived his life as a loving husband, passionate father, and outstanding man of God.

Doug was always thankful for his career of 28 years at Rogue Disposal & Recycling. Known for his loyalty, he served over time in a lead-man position, and helped with route mapping and efficiency. He took joy in his company and fellow workers always. He will always be remembered for his steadfast love, his patience, gentleness, faithfulness, kindness, and integrity. He was genuinely interested in anyone he met and is remembered as a remarkable listener. His life is a testimony to the Lord. He loved others and esteemed others higher than himself. He showed great love and sacrifice for his family. He was a humble man, persistent and strong, full of knowledge, and timely insight. He lived his life heartily as unto the Lord.

Doug is survived by his best friend and wife of 37 years, Cheryl (Miller) Vail; sons, Steven, David and wife, Rosanna, and Joshua and wife, Jackie; four grandchildren; father, Walter; mother, Shirley; brothers, Walter Jr. and wife, Joanne and Dennis and wife, Lori; his brothers-in-law, Doug and wife, Wendy, Gary and wife, Sally, and John and wife, Tien; and extended Vail and Miller families.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Applegate Christian Fellowship in Ruch, Oregon. Pastor Adam Hulstrom will officiate. Reception to immediately follow memorial service.
