James 'Jim' Leo Chaplin
July 26, 1944 - October 19, 2017
Born in Iowa Falls, Iowa, Jim was a graduate of Iowa Falls High School, class of 1962. He received a bachelor's degree in business in 1966 from Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota. He moved to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1967. In 1989 he relocated to the Rogue Valley in Southern Oregon, as a partner in MJM & Associates, specializing in house moving, with his brother "Doc" Chaplin. Jim was a loving father, brother, and uncle. As a faithful parishioner, he attended regular services at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point, Oregon. Jim's hobbies included photography and square dancing with the "Star Promenaders."
Jim’s kindhearted generosity and willingness to always lend a hand will be greatly missed by friends, family, and all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his children, Brian L. Chaplin of Mission Viejo, California and Kelly P. Chaplin of Mill Creek, Washington; his sister, Karen McLaughlin; his brother, "Doc" Chaplin and sister-in-law, Shirley Chaplin; and brother-in-law, Steve Ball. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Leo Chaplin and sister, Janice Ball, all of Iowa Falls, Iowa.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 25, from 6-8 p.m. at Perl Funeral Home in Medford. A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 26, at 10 a.m. at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point. The following week, visitation for friends and family in Iowa Falls will be held Friday, November 3, at Surls Funeral Home of Iowa Falls from 5-7 p.m., followed by a graveside service Saturday, November 4, at 11 a.m. at Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in Jim's name to either Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point, Ore. or St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
