August 22, 1933 - February 8, 2018
Gertrude “Trudy” Omann was born in Marlboro, Maryland, where she grew up in a large farming family.
She moved to Washington, D.C. at age 18, where she worked in a department store. There, she met the love of her life, Bert. He was a handsome sailor, and they knew early on that they were just right together.
They married in 1951. Bert soon shipped out, and Gertrude traveled alone to Medford, a place she had never been, to meet a new family. There, they worked together to make a home and raise a family of four children. She was a devoted mother and found everyday opportunities to teach her children about God and faith.
During the years when their children were in school, Trudy worked at various companies and enjoyed contributing the extras that her income added. She loved her family, music, cooking, gardening, and welcoming people into their home. Her hospitality was well-known, and so was her cooking.
She was preceded in death by her beloved Bert in 2017, and is survived by her children, two granddaughters, a grandson, a brother, a sister, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be said on Friday, March 9 at 8:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., both at Sacred Heart Church in Medford.
