Inez Olive Whiting

January 25, 1914 - March 1, 2018

Inez Olive Whiting passed away peacefully March 1, 2018 at the age of 104 at her home in Medford, Oregon. She was born January 25, 1914 in Decatur, Nebraska to Stephen and Roselda Klipping.

Inez graduated in 1932 from Bennett County High School in Martin, South Dakota and from beauty school in 1933. She owned and operated Rose Beauty Shop in Martin, S.D. for seven years. She married Richard W. Whiting November 3, 1935. They lived in South Dakota, California, Arizona, and Nebraska. Inez worked on the production line and it was Richard (Dick) who supervised the 22 or so women line crew that built the airplanes that helped the U.S. win World War II. They also owned and operated several businesses over the years, an auto repair shop, a pool hall, and a mobile home lot. Inez also owned and operated Inez Beauty Salon in Ojai, California for 10 years.

After retirement, they traveled full-time for 12 years in their motorhome and then moved to Medford in 1995 to be close to their daughter, Beverly and son-in-law, Barry for the rest of her wonderful life. She was a hairdresser professionally but also loved to travel in their RV, dance, garden, make crafts, walk, volunteer at the Medford Senior Center, spend time with their grandchildren, watch Mariners baseball on TV, and play all kinds of games and cards, especially pinochle and cribbage. A group of ladies played pinochle together for at least the last 10 years.

She is survived by her two daughters, Beverly Jo (Barry) Hurd and Carol Jean (Chuck) Zajic; five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Diane) Hurd, Harold (Betsy) Hurd, Ronnie (Carrie) Hurd, Lance (Melissa) Zajic, and Stacia (Paul) Lucchese; 10 great-grandchildren, Heidi, Stephanie (Andres), Levi, Courtney, Shawn (Melinda), Ryan (Kristyn), Jamie (Tyler), Miranda, Victoria, and Tara; seven great-great- grandchildren, Jada, Taylor, Zedakiah, Liliana, Mia, Gavin, and Paisley; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Wilma Payton; and her husband of 67 years, Richard, who passed away in 2002.
