Alice Saunders passed away March 13, 2018 in Medford, Oregon. She was born 91 years ago to Pauline E. and Sanford W. Saunders in Sewickley, Pennsylvania.
The Saunders later moved back to Nebraska where Alice started kindergarten in Lincoln, Nebraska schools. She finished high school in 1941 and directly applied to the University of Nebraska where she was received into the music department. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music in Music Education. Her first year of teaching was in a small town in Nebraska. She also taught in Kansas and Ottumwa, Iowa before coming to Medford in 1960 to teach in the instrumental department in various schools throughout the district. Alice taught for 26 years before retiring. Her hobbies included the growing of orchids. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, played the violin in the Rogue Valley Symphony for 20 years and was a member of the Rogue Valley Orchid Society for some 30 years. Alice received a number of blue ribbon awards from the RV Orchid Society and two special awards from the American Orchid Society.
A memorial service for Alice will be held at 1 p.m. March 27, 2018 at the Medford First United Methodist Church.
