Donald M. Wiley
November 30, 1931 - March 16, 2018
Donald M. Wiley passed away peacefully in his home March 16, 2018 surrounded by his wife, Charlotte and family members after a battle with cancer. He was 86 years old.
Don was born November 30, 1931 in Flagstaff, Arizona. He grew up in Williams, Ariz. and later moved to Southern Oregon, where he attended Medford High School. He joined the Air Force in 1949 and was later stationed in Okinawa, Japan during the Korean War. Ultimately Don spent 10 years in military service. He married Charlotte Grigsby August 9, 1953 in Medford. They have lived a tremendous life together for almost 65 years.
While stationed in Sacramento, he learned a technique in manufacturing called post form countertops. He took that skill with him back to Medford, and in 1965 opened Kitchen Masters. He expanded the business into custom cabinets and cultured marble. He sold Kitchen Masters in 1979, and in 1988 came out of retirement to start Marble Design in Central Point, Ore., where he worked for another 10 years.
Don was an avid woodworker who proudly displayed his workmanship in his home and many other homes in the Rogue Valley. He was also a talented antique car restorer. One of Don’s favorite things to do was to give rides to children and grandchildren in his classic 1936 Ford two-door Sedan and his 1930 Model A Roadster with that famous rumble seat.
Don was passionate about his faith as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings of responsibility. Later in life, he served as a sealer for the Medford, Oregon Temple for 17 years.
Don spent countless hours in his shop helping young people with their senior projects, Eagle Scout projects and tutoring friends on the art of creating heirlooms for their families. Don was an heirloom himself … his goodness, faith and love for mankind will be passed down through generations!
Don is survived by his wife, Charlotte; their children, Doug (Terri) Wiley of Grants Pass, Ore. and Janine (Marvin) Poulson of Medford, Ore.; their grandchildren, Steven, Justina, Matt, Luke, Brady, and Laurel; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Friday, March 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2141 Brookhurst St., Medford, OR. Arrangements are being handled by Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary. www.hillcrestmortuary.com
