Robert Glen Lyon
August 12, 1938 - February 7, 2018
Robert Glen Lyon, son of Glen and Thelma Lyon, was called home February 7, 2018. He was born August 12, 1938 in Portland, Oregon.
“Bob” spent his childhood in Burns, Oregon where he enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, and football. He enlisted in the Navy at 17 years old. He served on the U.S.S. Gurke DD-783 during the Korean War. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1966 with his wife, Judy, where they happily raised three children (seven combined.).
It was very important to Bob to be involved and very supportive in his childrens’ sports. He also supported his community by coaching baseball. His more famous attributes to the community consisted of laying rock to build the Rogue Valley Mall along with the Applegate dam. He was a gentleman and a scholar, and would hands down do anything for anyone. He earned a living by driving trucks; driving log trucks was his favorite. His many log truck stories will forever be remembered. He loved driving his yellow 1973 Dodge van with a 340. He sure did race that thing all around the Rogue Valley. I’m sure a few of you remember that!
In his later years he really enjoyed spending his time with his best friend, Mary. They would go fishing, camping, and take long drives in the country leading them to the next casino! We know he is now sitting at that slot machine in Heaven with a huge smile on his face! Bob sure did have a sense of humor and a very playful personality. In fact, when his nurses would ask his name he would refer to himself as Freddy Fudpucker. His borderline inappropriate jokes will be missed greatly, but not forgotten.
Our family wants to send a special thanks to the Oregon Veterans’ Home in Lebanon, Ore., for honoring Bob and showing love and compassion to all our veterans.
