February 21, 1929 - March 2, 2018
John Caneer peacefully slipped these earthly bonds on March 2, 2018. John was born February 21, 1929 in Los Angeles, California to Wanda and Fernando (Hap) Caneer and spent his early years in Westwood, Calif. The family moved to Altadena, Calif. where he spent many happy childhood days before settling in Whittier, Calif.
John attended Stanford University and graduated with a masters degree in architecture. He was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi, Tau chapter at Stanford.
In 1954, John married LaRea Wells, and they moved to Whittier, Calif. where he accepted a position with North American Aviation as an industrial engineer. Among the many projects he worked on throughout his career, the Apollo and shuttle space programs were among his favorites. He worked for the company for 30 years before retiring in 1987.
John was an avid fisherman, and he and his wife traveled widely, not only for the pleasure of fishing, but also for the enjoyment of travel itself. One of his favorite trips was a three-month journey to the South Pacific, including Fiji, Cook Islands, New Zealand and the Great Barrier Reef.
Later travels included the Galapalos, Easter Island and Pitcairn Island. Hawaii was always a special destination where he and his family spend many happy holidays and joyous anniversaries.
Besides traveling, as a hobby, John was an excellent gardener and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labors with friends and family. He was known as "Farmer John" among his friends at Rogue Valley Manor.
John is survived by his wife, LaRea; two sons, John W. and William L. Caneer; four grandchildren, Joshua Caneer, Jaz Caneer, Amma Rowan Caneer, and Soleil LaRea Rowan Caneer; niece, Deborah Grayston; and nephew, David Caneer.
