Charlyn Jean Adams

October 30, 1939 - May 7, 2018

Charlyn Jean Adams was born in Elkhorn, Wisconsin to Charles and Evelyn Troeger. She graduated from Lincoln High School in San Diego, California. At an early age, she began dancing and in her early 20s competed in the Miss San Diego Pageant. Charlyn married Sam Adams on June 2, 1962. Their mutual love of dance included swing contests in the ‘60s, and later many years of square dancing.

In 1963, they moved to the Bay Area and had two children, Brian and Nancy. In 1977 the family moved to the outskirts of Medford where Charlyn enjoyed a view of the Rogue Valley and a plethora of wildlife. Upon Sam’s retirement in 1998, they began snow-birding to Mesa, Arizona, where they enjoyed many friends and activities.

Charlyn was primarily a homemaker and did a significant amount of community volunteering, including Red Cross Blood Drives (donating over 20 gallons throughout her life), PTA, Welcome Wagon, and Call-A-Ride. She had many collections, including butterflies and antiques. She loved traveling the world, cooking, quilting, trying exotic foods, photography, playing cards, and researching genealogy. She enjoyed outdoor activities like rafting, water and snow skiing, hiking, and corresponding with family and friends.

Charlyn passed away after battling advanced-stage cancer for almost a year. She is survived by her husband, Sam Adams; son, Brian (Renee) Adams; daughter, Nancy (Tom) Knot; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many beloved relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held June 9, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Medford First Church of the Nazarene, 1974 E. McAndrews Rd., Medford, OR 97504. Remembrances may be made to the Red Cross.
