Sally Gold Bell

1946 - 2018

We discovered how unfair life can seem when we lost our mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Sally Gold Bell, on May 19, 2018. She fought to stay with us with everything she had, but in the end, it wasn’t enough.

Sally was born in 1946 in Shanghai, China, coming to San Francisco as a baby with her parents Ralph and Irene Gold. She grew up in San Francisco, later moving to Hillsborough, California with her father and brothers Dan and Randy after losing her mother to cancer at age 9.

She attended elementary and junior high in Hillsborough and high school at San Mateo High. After graduation, she enrolled at San Jose State College. Along the way she visited Europe, Israel, Hawaii and stayed for a time with her aunt Sarah in Sydney, Australia. During a break in her college career, she lived in San Francisco, working and living as a free spirit during the that city’s exciting and hopeful 1960s. She enrolled in and received her BA from San Francisco State University, attending during that school’s turbulent times, forming the basis for her lifetime liberal and compassionate beliefs.

She met James Bell in the late 1970s, moved to Medford, married, and lived in the Rogue Valley for the rest of her life. From that union came two sons, Jeremy and Josh. Sally also became a loving mother to Jim’s children, Jennifer and Jon, who she raised as her own. Sally and Jim parted ways in the 1990s.

Sally found her career passion in real estate, serving on boards and practicing as a successful realtor for several companies in the Rogue Valley until her death. Many long-lasting friendships, both clients and colleagues, came from her work in real estate, where she was known for her independence, honesty and integrity. She found profound personal joy from her role as "Nana" for her grandchildren, Emerson, Allison, and James and as mother-in-law to Marcela and Dilek.

Sally leaves behind her children, grandchildren, brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews, in addition to her many friends and associates. She lost her father Ralph in 1993.

Funeral services will be held May 22, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Jacksonville Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date to be announced.
